Bayonne High School Prom (Case Study)

BAYONNE HIGH SCHOOL PROM

CASE STUDY

Due to Covid, Bayonne High School in New York had their prom delayed and then held outdoors in their football stadium - as a silent prom. Everyone had to where headphones in order to hear any music and dance. Bayonne needed a small branding package including bugs and lower third for onsite interviews, video loops for LED displays around the venue and an infographic animation with instructions on how to use the headphones.

THE CHALLENGE

The turn around time was a week, with minimal design elements to utilize. Outside of their high school logo and the color red, there wasn't much to work with other than the mascot, and the overall feelings from the client about the mascot were not great.

THE PROCESS

This project was essentially a blank canvas. I knew I wanted the package to have some refinement, to reflect the pomp and circumstance of prom, but with a lack of design elements to work with, I needed something other than the school bee to build the package on and thought a honeycomb pattern might work. In looking for inspiration I came upon an Envato template that utilized hexagons as design and transitional elements that I felt would be easy to break apart and customize for what I needed.

THE RESULTS

The deliverables list included an intro and outro animation including the event "logo" I mocked up, along with a 30 second looping animation including the bee mascot in creative ways. A small suite of bugs and lower thirds for interviews and video footage, along with a custom headphones bug and instructional animation.

The reviews were that the graphics looked amazing especially as they helped illuminate the dance floor while playing.
